Ganga aarti in Varanasi

Idol of "Ganga Maata" (Goddess Ganges) at Dashashwamedh Ghat Varanasi

Dashashwamedh Ghat is that the main ghat in Varanasi city on the Ganga River. It is situated very on the brink of Vishwanath Temple (varanasi shiva temple)and is perhaps the foremost spectacular ghat. Two Hindu legends are associated with it: according to one, Brahma created it to welcome Shiva, and in another, Brahma sacrificed ten horses during Dasa-Ashwamedha yajna performed here.

The present ghat was built by Peshwa Balaji Baji Rao within the year 1748. A few decades later, Ahilyabahi Holkar, the Queen of Indore rebuilt the ghat within the year 1774. Close to the ghat, overlooking the Ganga lies the Jantar Mantar, an observatory built by Maharaja Jai Singh of Jaipur within the year 1737.

Ganga Aarti (ritual of offering prayer to the Ganges river) is held daily at dusk. many priests perform this ritual by carrying deepam and moving it up and down during a rhythmic tune of bhajans. Special aartis are persisted Tuesdays and on religious festivals of Hindus. The Ganges river is such an interesting place to visit in Varanasi, so much to learn and this is just a small piece of its history and importance also.

It is a really serene and pious atmosphere of the time of Ganga Aarti. We suggest to must-visit if are in Varanasi. despite lockdown time thanks to Covid-19 people gather there for the Pooja. Get there early and choose the ghat to observe the ceremony goes to urge very crowded, so reach early to pick the simplest place to ascertain the aarti. The daily evening ceremony is to offer because of the Ganga Maa for providing for the town . People gather here and await hours to urge seats near the ceremony place. Ganga Aarti in Dashashwamedh Ghat, may be a must-see and one among things to try to to in varanasi. To get an honest it's suggested that to urge there around 5:30 PM.

The arti is mesmerizing because the priests do their bit with the diyas and pray to the holy Ganga. However, we were quite distant as we were a touch late and therefore the entire place fills up very soon, However, the important thing is to seek out an area such that you can enjoy the spectacle. There are three ways to see Ganga Aarti

  1. The first one is to seek out an area to seat near aarti and therein case, you'll see the rear of the priests (as aarti perform to face the Maa Gange).
  2. The second one is to find a seat on a boat. Where you'll get experience as you check out the priests and arti fully spectacle.
  3. The third one, you'll find some nearby people home who provide their terrace to observe and obtain some small fee, where you'll seat and a reasonably clear view. There is an alternative choice to observe from a ship , so you'll hire a ship for an equivalent , many of us watch from boats also , but unsure what that view looks like, but it seems like it would be hard to see.

Ganga aarti in Varanasi timing

The Ganga Aarti starts soon after sunset and lasts for about 45 minutes. In summer the Aarti begins at about 7:00 PM and in winter it starts at around 6:00 PM. Hundreds of people gather at the ghat every evening to watch the event and participate the aarti.
