Dashashwamedh Ghat is the main ghat in Varanasi on the Holy River Ganga. This Ghat was earlier know as Ramesvaram Ghat, is situated at the banks of the holy river Ganges. It is believed the ghat was built by Lord Ram so that Ghat is dedicated to Lord Hanuman. Lord Hanuman's son of Pawan(Air) is known as strength and power.
Dashashwamedh Ghat is nearby the popular Vishwanath Temple Varanasi. This ghat was built by Peshwa Balaji Baji Rao in 1748. A few decades later, Ahilyabahi Holkar, the Queen of Indore redevelop the ghat in 1774.
Ganga aarti
Idol of "Ganga Maata" at the holy river at Dashashwamedh Ghat. Ganga Aarti is held daily at dusk. Several priests do this ritual by carrying deep and moving it up and down in a rhythmic tune of bhajans (prayer). The Ganga Aarti starts soon after sunset for 30-40 minutes. Many people gather at the ghat every evening to watch and participate in the bhajan.
